Fun stuff - In work

Here at Alere, we believe that the fun starts with your attitude to your role – this is expressed most fully in the trust we enjoy in setting and delivering our own goals (in pursuit of the Company’s overall objectives) and the help and support we receive in building our personal development plans.

Other ways we try to ensure that we enjoy our work experience is to minimise the hassle and frustrations caused by excessive bureaucracy and maximize the benefits from enabling systems wherever we can.

We have regular company briefings where we look for new ways to communicate – one of the most innovative was our Technical Director hosting an episode of “Celebrity Family Fortunes” featuring the Osbournes and the Jacksons, followed closely by our Facilities Leader filming his own episode of “Cribs” to update us on the changes to the facilities.

We recently  took part in our own rendition of the Lympics to coincide with the real Olympics.

In addition, whenever we can we celebrate together in addition to the Christmas party – we have hired a cinema, a micro-brewery, had a medieval night at the races (?) and barbequed in the Car Park. We’ve also rafted and canyoned in an effort to build a better team.

We look forward to our biggest celebration yet – when we get regulatory approval and our first product launched…………….

Fun Stuff - Outside work......

It is important for all of our employees to find a good life balance.

We socialise together – golf outings, go-karting, bowling, laser-questing, quiz nights or just the occasional night out; there is hopefully something that appeals to everyone.

For the more energetic amongst us there we offer a reduced rate membership of the gym and pool at Stirling University, a number of our employees use the facilities at the start, end or during the day.

In addition, we have taken part in a number of sponsored events over the years including parachute-jumping, fire-walking for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, MONSTER bike and hikes, marathons and 10K runs. There is always someone willing and available to give pretty well anything a go.

Jim and Alan's fire walk...

The University campus itself is a nice place for a jog, a walk or a picnic lunch. Airthrey Loch is one place to chill-out and go for a walk and a chat (or even have a one-to-one coaching session).
